In a preponderance of case reports articles, through authors' photos and explanations, we see a seemingly smooth path from diagnosis to final treatment, closing on the "before-to-after" journey. Rarely are we actually made privy to all that really happened "between the lines" of completing the case. For example, before Dr. Lorin Berland and his discussed possible cases to…

Like an Axe, Tools of the Trade Need Sharpening One of my most memorable law enforcement instructors with the US Treasury taught us that the "ultimate tool of the crime fighter" was not the sidearm, vehicle, personal communication device, or partner—but was in fact the lowly pencil. The same can be said for professional firefighters and their reliance on the symbolic Collins Tool "Sequoia" axe. As the firefighter was successful in ventilation control, so must the crime fighter control ventilation. So must we manage the flow of documented information. Your dental practice is no different. Control and manage the ventilation…

As concerns the other hard numbers, look closely and scrutinize the following specifics in your office. BUT SOMETIMES THE NUMBERS JUST DON'T ADD UP We are all in the hot and heavies of yet another political season. Who should we believe, and are they telling us the truth? Is the economy strong and stable with improving employment numbers, or are we on…

Now scientists at McMaster University have found that resistance has been around for at least 3000 years. Research findings show that antibiotic resistance is a natural phenomenon that predates modern clinical antibiotics. "Antibiotic resistance is seen as a current problem and the fact that antibiotics are becoming less effective because of resistance germs found in hospitals is a known fact," said Gerry Wright, a professor at McMaster University…

In First Impressions, George Freedman, DDS, gives readers a brief summary of products that have recently been introduced to dentistry, based on his clinical experience. Triotray Pro Triodent Corporation Impressions are always stressful in the dental practice. Since impression materials are expensive, and chair time costs even more, it is essential that impression be perfect first time, every time.
